Loan Origination Fee Calculator
When you take out a federal student loan, you will be charged an origination fee by the U.S. Department of Education. This fee is a percentage of the total loan amount you are borrowing and is deducted proportionately from each disbursement of your loan. Because this fee reduces the actual loan amount you will receive, you will need to take the origination fee into consideration when you request your loan amount. You can calculate the net amount you will receive after the origination fee is deducted using the tools below. To determine how much you need to borrow or how much you will receive from either your unsubsidized direct loan or health loan, use the first set or parameters. To determine how much you need to borrow or how much you will receive from a graduate PLUS loan use the second set of parameters. Please round all figures to the nearest whole dollar. Figures are estimates only.
