How to Apply for Financial Aid

Review the Financial Aid Checklist to determine what forms and documents are required for the type(s) of aid you are applying for. If you are planning on applying for institutional aid; a completed institutional aid application along with a completed FAFSA  must be submitted on or before February 15, 2024 to be considered on time.

Students are encouraged to submit their documents securely by using the document upload.

Steps to Securing Aid

Students Applying for Federal Direct Loans

Step 1 Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students applying ONLY for Federal Direct and/or Federal Graduate PLUS Loans only need to submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA. You can complete this form at www.studentaid.gov. Remember to use the appropriate school code: University of Connecticut – All Campuses 001417

Step 2 Review Financial Aid Offers in the Student Administration System.

Students will be notified via email once their financial aid offer is available for review in the Student Administration System. Students can view, acknowledge and accept their financial aid offerings directly in the portal. Next steps will be listed in the Action Items tile, under “To – Do List” tab.

Students Applying for Institutional Aid

Step 1 Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students applying for both federal and institutional aid must submit a 2024-2025 FAFSA. You can complete this form at www.studentaid.gov. Remember to use the appropriate school code: University of Connecticut – All Campuses 001417

Step 2 Complete the Institutional Aid Application. (NEW!!)

Please complete the Institutional Aid Application. (NEW!!)  Please provide responses to all questions asked.  Failure to do so may prevent submission of the application.  Have a parent sign the form by utilizing a mouse to sign, then click “submit” for the form to be transmitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid Services.

Step 3 Submit your (student) signed 2022 Federal Tax Return OR Student Non-Tax Filer Statement.

Submit either your signed 2022 Federal Tax Return including all schedules and attachments or a Student Non-Tax Filer Statement if you did not and will not file a 2022 Federal Tax Return. If married, you must also include your spouse’s 2022 Federal Tax Return if you did not file jointly. If you are unable to provide a copy of your signed 2022 federal tax return, you may submit a tax return transcript. You can request these here, via the IRS website.

Step 4 Submit Student 2022 W-2 Statements (If married a copy of your spouse’s 2022 W2 Statement as well.)

If you are unable to locate your W-2’s from 2022 you may request a wage and income statement for free from the IRS, here.

Step 5 Submit Parents signed 2022 Federal Tax Return or Parent Non-Tax Filer Statement.

Submit either copy of your parent’s signed 2022 Federal Tax Return including all schedules and attachments or a Parent Non-Tax Filer Statement if they did not and will not file in 2022. If you are unable to provide copies of your parent’s signed federal 2022 tax returns you may instead provide copies of their tax return transcript. Step 6 Submit Parent(s) 2022 W2 Statements.
