Students applying ONLY for Federal Direct and/or Federal Graduate PLUS Loans only need to submit a 2025-2026 FAFSA. You can complete this form at here. Please use the following school code for UConn Health:
Federal (FAFSA) School Code: 001417- All campuses.
Use this school code for entrance counseling, MPN, graduate PLUS loan applications and exit counseling.
Completing your FAFSA
Submission of a FAFSA is a requirement to be considered for all forms of federal student aid. This application must be completed each year. To complete a FAFSA please follow the instructions below:
- Create an FSA ID at studentaid.gov. This ID is your log on and will be used each year you submit a FAFSA. It will also be used to submit graduate PLUS loan applications, signed Master Promissory Notes (MPN), and complete both entrance & exit counseling. If you have already created an FSA ID, either during undergraduate studies or are a continuing student at the health center do not create a new ID. Please reuse the same one each year.
- Make sure to complete the appropriate year FAFSA. During the academic year there may be two FAFSA's a student can submit; one for the current academic year and one for the upcoming academic year. Please make sure you are completing the appropriate one depending on what year you are seeking aid for.
- Provide answers for all questions, even if your answer is zero. Do not leave any response blank.
- Make sure you digitally sign and submit your FAFSA. Also make sure to enter the university's school code, 001417
Once your FAFSA has been submitted please allow for processing. The Department of Education will transmit your FAFSA data to our office within a few days and we will then begin our process. If you have questions please contact our office here.
Securing your Federal Student AId
Once a student has received notice of their financial aid, it is the student's responsibility to review and take action by accepting , declining or modifying the offered financial aid. Please follow these steps to ensure you have successfully accepted aid.
- Log onto your account at studentadmin.uconn.edu This portal is where you will find your financial aid offer.
- Please make sure you are reviewing aid for the appropriate academic year. If you are a continuing student your default view may display aid for the current academic year.
- You must either accept or decline offered aid. Federal student loans are not automatically accepted for a student. You must indicate whether you wish to accept or decline the offered loans. Should you decline the aid either in part or in total and decide to alter your elections you may complete the Request to Reinstate Previously Declined Funds form.
- If you wish to accept the aid you will also have the option to accept an amount that is less than the total amount offered.
- Finally make sure you submit your selections.
After you have made your elections you can view your fee bill to see how aid is applied to your account and whether or not you have an outstanding balance.
Additional Requirements
After successfully accepting or declining aid, there are additional requirements a student needs to address. Some may prohibit aid from disbursing while others may affect a student's refund.
- All students who receive financial aid must complete the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement. This is found in the bursar's section of your student portal at studentadmin.uconn.edu
- If you chose to receive your health insurance through the university's Student Health Insurance Plan (or SHIP), please complete the Title IV Waiver. This allows the bursar's office to use your financial aid to pay for the plan. This waiver is found in the bursar's section of your student portal, studentadmin.uconn.edu
- It is mandatory for all UConn students to carry health insurance and the charge for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will be added to your fee bill. If you choose to waive the SHIP you will need to complete the health insurance waiver by September 15th through your student portal, in the bursar's section. You will need to prove coverage under another health insurance plan, as required by federal law by uploading pictures of your insurance plan card.
- Finally, should you accept aid that is in excess of your direct charges you will need to elect how to receive any refunds. You can elect to have your refund issued in the form of a paper check, which is mailed to the address of record or you can elect to have your refund directly deposited into a bank account you indicate. You can make this election on the bursar's section at your student portal, studentadmin.uconn.edu
