Dr. Chen's research interests include large-scale statistical learning, machine learning, statistical computing and optimization, health data science, as well as agricultural, ecological, and environmental statistics. He is a core member of the Center for Population Health at UCHC and serves as MPI or Co-PI on several projects on data-driven suicide prevention.  He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute and a fellow of the American Statistical Association.
