Our goal on the physical wellness subcommittee is to help make staying fit easy and fun during your time at UConn and beyond. We know school can be hard and your time may be short, but I’m sorry to say that our careers will likely give us limited time to take care of ourselves too. It’s not all doom and gloom though.
If you start incorporating physical activity and proper nutrition into your life now, you’ll be setting yourself up for the same down the road. But I’m sure you’re still asking how can I possibly make the time for this? Why should I do this? How can I make this fun? Where do I even start? Have no fear! In the following pages we have answers to all those questions. You name it, we’ve got it! You’ll find exercise routines, nutritional recommendations, clubs and teams you can join to play sports, and—since we’re all scientists—evidence based medicine. Remember we’re all going to be telling our patients to stay healthy, so let’s teach from experience! We hope that our programs will help you keep stress down while you get in shape. Our committee is committed to guiding you every step of the way!
Most of the time, for most people, health is determined by environment and individual choices and behavior. But sometimes things break down and we need some professional attention for an acute illness or injury, or for some chronic condition, or perhaps just for preventive health care. If you don’t know where to look, see this guide prepared by the Student Health Service.
