Medical Dental Student Government (MDSG) represents the medical and dental students of the UConn Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine. MDSG plans activities to help ease the stress of classes, distributes funding to student groups, and advocates for the student body to the academic leaders of both schools. Questions about Student Government may be directed to any current officer.<\/p>\n

Tips for Creating a New MDSG Registered Student Interest Group, Club, or Organization<\/h2>\n

Interest Groups, Clubs, and Organizations<\/h3>\n

New interest group requests are reviewed for approval twice a year. The deadlines for submission are October 1 and March 1.<\/p>\n

With a new interest group, club, or organization in mind, recruit a faculty advisor.<\/p>\n

Proposals must include a longevity plan. Is the new group anticipating a short-term period of activity or is there a long-term goal. With long-term in mind, detail how leadership will transition as student leaders rotate towards increased clinical responsibilities and graduation. List the student contacts with email addresses along with the faculty advisor\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

Submit the proposal to Lisa Francini prior to October 1 or March 1.<\/p>\n

The proposal will be forwarded to the advisors to MDSG, Dr. Sarita Arteaga and Dr. Marilyn Katz, the deans for Dental and Medical Student Affairs for approvals.<\/p>\n

Once approved, notify the current MDSG president and treasurer of the newly approved student group.<\/p>\n

Unrecognized groups will not be eligible for MDSG funding.<\/p>\n

Submit a paragraph with a description of the interest group to Lisa Francini, francini@uchc.edu<\/a>. Include the faculty advisor and list the student contacts with email addresses for the interest group web page. Only groups with a posted description will receive funding.<\/p>\n

*All interest groups and sports club leaders are required to post their group\u2019s activities on the events calendar<\/a>.\u00a0This is a central location to help prevent scheduling conflicts among all groups. Failure to post group activities could result in denial of MDSG funding.<\/p>\n

Sports Clubs<\/h3>\n

Sports clubs do not require a faculty advisor, although one can be recruited, but must provide a student contact.<\/p>\n

Sports clubs must provide a roster of participants. All participants must complete a UCH waiver to participate in any sporting activities, games, or matches. It is the club leader\u2019s responsibility to obtain signed waivers from all members listed on the roster.<\/p>\n

MDSG provides a $12.00 subsidy per person to sports clubs. If a sporting venue is used the remainder of venue rental fees must be reimbursed to MDSG from participants.<\/p>\n

Sports clubs are not required to provide a web page write-up.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
