Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering CEO Dr. Cato Laurencin won a <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/commonfund.nih.gov\/pioneer\">National Institutes of Health Pioneer Award<\/a>\u00a0for his exceptionally creative research in regenerative engineering. The $4 MM grant is part of the NIH\u2019s program for high-risk research with potentially high rewards. The NIH Director\u2019s Pioneer Award recognizes an exclusive class of individual scientists whose work is deemed exceptionally creative, highly innovative, and to have the potential to produce \u201cunusually high impact\u201d in addressing or solving \u201cexceptionally important problems\u201d in biomedical or behavioral sciences.\u00a0Developing a new therapeutic strategy for the regeneration of complex musculoskeletal tissues and joints is proposed in Dr. Laurencin\u2019s Pioneer Award.
