{"id":4404,"date":"2024-06-04T14:01:19","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T18:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/public-health-sciences\/?p=4404"},"modified":"2024-06-04T14:01:19","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T18:01:19","slug":"maria-mayte-restrepo-ruiz-phd-is-now-an-assistant-professor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/public-health-sciences\/2024\/06\/04\/maria-mayte-restrepo-ruiz-phd-is-now-an-assistant-professor\/","title":{"rendered":"Maria (Mayte) Restrepo-Ruiz, PhD, is now an assistant professor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pg-4-10\" class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\">\n<div id=\"pgc-4-10-1\" class=\"panel-grid-cell\">\n<div id=\"panel-4-10-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"18\">\n<div class=\"textwidget\">\n<p>Having received her PhD in our department in 2021 for her study titled, \u201cArmed Conflict, Intimate Partner Violence and Women\u2019s Mental Health: An Explanatory Mixed-Methods Study.\u201d She will continue her work with the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood as well as teach a course on Global Health in the Program in Applied Public Health Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><span data-scheme-color=\"@FFFFFF,0,\" data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">Currently, Dr. Restrepo is working on building a surveillance<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-scheme-color=\"@FFFFFF,0,\" data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">system for Adverse and Positive Childhood Experiences in<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-scheme-color=\"@FFFFFF,0,\" data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">Connecticut using publicly available and administrative data<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-scheme-color=\"@FFFFFF,0,\" data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">sources. Data from this system will be used to\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\"><span>\u00a0<\/span>identify child<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">populations at higher risk of adverse childhood experiences and<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">gaps in the provision of prevention programs. She expects data<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">from this system will be available to the public through a web portal<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">in 2023. She is also collaborating with colleagues from Colombia<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">and Puerto Rico on a project to understand better the role of<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">potentially traumatic experiences in children\u2019s mental health in<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">socio-politically complex contexts.\u00a0 Dr. Restrepo\u2019s goal is to<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">advance her research in preventing adverse experiences in<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">childhood by focusing on factors that have been found to promote<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span data-usefontface=\"true\" data-contrast=\"none\" class=\"TextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun BCX9 SCXP2103411\">positive health outcomes despite adversity.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having received her PhD in our department in 2021 for her study titled, \u201cArmed Conflict, Intimate Partner Violence and Women\u2019s Mental Health: An Explanatory Mixed-Methods Study.\u201d She will continue her work with the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood as well as teach a course on Global Health in the Program in Applied Public Health Sciences.
