The Division faculty are engaged in teaching, research and service.<\/p>\n<p>Division faculty have primary responsibility for ethics education in the undergraduate medical program, teach courses on law and ethics in the graduate public health program, and coordinate the J.D.\/M.P.H. degree at UConn Health.<\/p>\n<p>The Division brings a unique expertise and concentration on the study of law as a facet of public health and the role of law as a health determinant. Working with colleagues in the Department of Public Health Sciences and collaborators regionally, nationally and internationally the Division is one of few programs nationally examining the effects of the law on population health.<\/p>\n<p>Division faculty engage in critical research in law and ethics. In addition to work on HIV\/AIDS and childhood obesity, the Division brings a depth of expertise to issues in genetic testing and screening, stem cell research, and reproductive medicine. Of particular focus are ethical and legal issues of access and distribution of these technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The faculty have a strong track record in extramural funding and the development of the Division as a national leader in public health law and bioethics.<\/p>\n<p>The Division plays a key role in the Dempsey hospital ethics committee and human subject research protection at UConn Health. The Division also supports programs and activities in the medical humanities on the UConn Health campus.
