{"id":2703,"date":"2025-11-25T15:42:43","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T20:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/psychiatry\/?page_id=2703"},"modified":"2025-11-25T15:49:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T20:49:31","slug":"cognitive-remediation-of-executive-deficits-in-geriatric-depression","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/psychiatry\/research\/mood-cognition-and-aging-research-program\/cognitive-remediation-of-executive-deficits-in-geriatric-depression\/","title":{"rendered":"Cognitive Remediation of Executive Deficits in Geriatric Depression"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\t<p>Mood, Cognition, and Aging Research Program<\/p>\n<h4>\n\t\tLike us on\n\t<\/h4>\n<h1>\n\t\tCognitive Remediation of Executive Deficits in Geriatric Depression (Neuroplasticity)\n\t<\/h1>\n\t<p>This study is testing a computer-based program designed to improve mood, memory, and cognitive function in older adults who suffer from depression.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recruiting adults ages 55 and older who:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have symptoms of depression.<\/li>\n<li>Have tried antidepressants in the past and felt like they never got them to a non-depressed state.<\/li>\n<li>Have not been diagnosed with dementia or mild cognitive impairment.<\/li>\n<li>Are able to read and write in English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Participation involves:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treatment: Over four weeks, participants will complete 32 hours of a computer-based program at home, which involves playing &#8220;brain games&#8221; on a tablet the study team provides. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two programs designed to enhance brain activity.<\/li>\n<li>Assessments: Baseline, four weekly intervention assessments, and four follow-up assessments to measure mood and thinking abilities.
