Regular mammograms, an X-ray picture of the breast, are an effective test to find breast cancer early, sometimes up to three years before it can be felt.<\/p>\n\n<p>The percentage of women ages 50 to 74 in Connecticut who had a mammogram to screen for breast cancer did not vary substantially by insurance type from 2015 to 2017 (the most recent year data are available).\n\n<p>In 2015, the year prior to the CT SIM implementation, 61.4% of Medicare patients and 62.6% of privately insured patients had a mammogram.<\/p>\n\n<p>In the first two years (2016-2017) of the CT SIM implementation, the percent of Medicare patients who had a mammogram increased slightly to 62.3% in 2016 and to 64.8% in 2017.
