Medicine can help us to get well when we are sick. However, medicine needs to be taken by the right person, in the right amount, and in the right way. Ingesting the wrong medicine or too much medicine could make you really sick, it could even cause death. Many households have over-the-counter medicines like vitamins, herbals, pain relievers, and creams. Vitamins are a medicine. A person, especially a child, could get sick from taking too many vitamins. Prescription drugs should be taken under a physician’s guidance. All medicines come with directions. Read and follow the directions that say how much to take, when to take it, and things to avoid (like driving, certain foods, other medications, etc.). Measure carefully.

Cold Medicine

Creams

Dietary Supplements

Herbals

Laxatives

Liquids

Over-the-counter

Pain Relievers

Pills

Powders

Prescriptions

Vitamins

Brochures and Tip Sheets

First Aid for Poisoning

Your Poison Center

Tips for Taking Medicine Safely (Adults)

Tips for Taking Medicine Safely (Kids)

Avoiding Misuse of Prescription Medicines

Energy Drinks: Are they Safe?

Articles

Cold Medicine Abuse

Tips for a Safe Trip (English)

Tips for a Safe Trip (Spanish)

Dosage Counts

Information for People Using Pain Pills or Other Opioids

Medications are very common in the home.
