Watch former Program Director and current UConn Health Chief of Pharmacy, Kevin Chamberlin, provide some insight on our program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-683-0-0-1\" class=\"widget_text so-panel widget widget_custom_html\" data-index=\"1\" ><div class=\"textwidget custom-html-widget\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"780\" height=\"435\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LphcC31dYpI?si=Nb70UFFdNWNrUGvP\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-683-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-last-child\" data-index=\"2\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>Residents are required to complete core experiences in:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administration<\/li>\n<li>Anticoagulation Clinic - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Critical Care\/ICU<\/li>\n<li>Infectious Diseases<\/li>\n<li>Internal Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Leadership and Personal Professional Development (PPD) - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Medication Safety<\/li>\n<li>Medication Use Policy and Formulary Management - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Oncology\/Infusion Pharmacy<\/li>\n<li>Orientation<\/li>\n<li>Primary Care - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Research and Scholarship- [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Staffing - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<li>Teaching and Learning - [longitudinal]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Residents will choose one (1) of the following as a \u2018select\u2019 elective to do as a block learning experience:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ambulatory Care II with a clinical focus<\/li>\n<li>Critical Care II<\/li>\n<li>Emergency Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Internal Medicine II<\/li>\n<li>Pain\/Palliative Care<\/li>\n<li>Primary Care II with academia focus<\/li>\n<li>Specialty Pharmacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Residents will have the option to choose up to two (2) elective experiences to do as blocks, consisting of (but not limited to):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Administration II - Regulatory Compliance<\/li>\n<li>Antimicrobial Stewardship<\/li>\n<li>Cardiology<\/li>\n<li>Geriatric Clinic<\/li>\n<li>Informatics<\/li>\n<li>Medication Safety II<\/li>\n<li>Psychiatry<\/li>\n<li>Any \u2018Select\u2019 Elective Not Already Done<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Residents will also have additional opportunities during their longitudinal experiences, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IRB-approved research project to be presented in part at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and completed for a regional conference in the spring<\/li>\n<li>Leadership and Personal Professional Development (PPD) series with medical residents<\/li>\n<li>Obtain UConn School of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate<\/li>\n<li>Obtain UConn School of Pharmacy Anticoagulation Traineeship Certificate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Staffing requirements:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Every fourth weekend (two 8-hour shifts)<\/li>\n<li>One evening per week (6-hour shift)<\/li>\n<li>Rotating Friday evening every fourth week (6-hour shift)<\/li>\n<li>Two holiday shifts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UConn John Dempsey Hospital at UConn Health is customized to the individual resident each year, based on goals, interests, experiences, and postgraduate pursuits.
