Surgical pathology involves gross examinations (performed by a team of ASCP-certified physician assistants), microscopic examinations, and ancillary tests (immunohistochemistry, special stains, and molecular testing) at the discretion of surgical pathologists who are an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals. Currently, the surgical pathology service is staffed by anatomic pathologists with a range of subspecialty interests.<\/p>\n<p>Subspecialty interests include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Breast pathology: <a href=\"https:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Hegde-Poornima\">Poornima Upendra Hegde, M.D.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Gynecologic pathology including placental pathology:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Sanders-M.\">Melinda Sanders, M.D.<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Sadiq-Qandeel\">Qandeel Sadiq, M.D.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Gastrointestinal pathology<\/li>\n<li>Medical liver pathology <a href=\"https:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Forouhar-Faripour\">Faripour A.
