Autopsy Service

The autopsy service serves an important role in informing the patient's family and educating both the physician and the medical student.

Autopsies are performed Monday through Friday. The anatomic pathologists rotate on service under the direction of Dr. Ga Hie Nam.

Full or limited autopsies are performed on a perinatal, pediatric, and adult patient who was at UConn John Dempsey Hospital at the time of death or was a UConn Health patient during their life.

The department does not perform medico-legal autopsies. These are referred by law to the Medical Examiner. Autopsies on UConn John Dempsey Hospital patients are conducted without charge to the patient.
