Many graduate students from these programs are involved with DOEM and <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/occupational-environmental\/academics-and-research\/cph-new\/\">CPH-NEW<\/a> research projects, being supported as Research Assistants. The experience of these students and our faculty contributes to a vibrant academic presence.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"btn btn-success\" href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/occupational-environmental\/academics-and-research\/graduate-programs\/\" style=\"margin-bottom:20px\">Learn more<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DOEM faculty carry out a wide variety of research projects, most with federal funding.<\/p>\n<h3>Ongoing Research Projects<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Aging, Musculoskeletal Disorders and Work Capacity<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NIOSH<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: To examine longitudinally the predictors of extended maintenance of work ability as workers age and identify intervention foci to prolong useful participation in the workforce.<\/li>\n<li>Principle Investigator: Martin Cherniack, M.D., M.P.H.<\/li>\n<li>August 2008\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0August 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace (CPH-NEW)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NIOSH<\/li>\n<li>Major Goals: To establish a center for scientific research and education, based in participatory action research (PAR), integrating occupational health and safety (OSH) with worksite health promotion (WHP).\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/doem.uchc.edu\/academics_research\/cph_new\/hitec_ii\/index.html\">Health Improvement through Employee Control among Correctional Officers (HITEC II Study)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Principle Investigator: Martin Cherniack, M.D., M.P.H.<\/li>\n<li>2006\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Current<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Improving Breast Cancer Survivors\u2019 Return to Work Experiences<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CT Breast Health Initiative<\/li>\n<li>Major Goals: Fill in research gaps on factors that enable a successful return to work.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Alicia Dugan, Ph.D.<\/li>\n<li>July 2016\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0June 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Identifying Organizational Factors to Improve Cancer Survivors\u2019 Return to Work Experiences<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CICATS Cancer Prevention and Control CIG<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: Collaborate with CICATS CIG researchers from multiple disciplines and complementary areas of expertise to conduct community-based translational research focused on improving the well-being and work experiences of cancer survivors in Connecticut and beyond.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Alicia Dugan, Ph.D.<\/li>\n<li>June 2016 &#8211; February 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Occupational Safety and Health Core Interest Group \u2013 Collaboration for Occupational Health<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CICATS CIG<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: To maintain and facilitate a productive, integrated community of stakeholders committed to improving occupational health and safety of Connecticut workers<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Jennifer Cavallari, Sc.D., C.I.H.<\/li>\n<li>June 2013 &#8211; June 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Occupational Health Psychology<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>University of Connecticut<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: This training grant, in collaboration with the psychology department at the University of CT, Storrs, supports the establishment of a doctoral program in Occupational Health Psychology.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Jennifer Cavallari, Sc.D., C.I.H.<\/li>\n<li>June 2016 &#8211; June 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Randomized Controlled Trial of Whole Body Vibration Intervention in Truck Drivers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NIOSH (Subaward from Northeastern University)<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: To complete a randomized controlled field trial evaluating the effects of an EAVC seat suspension system on low back pain and other health outcomes.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Jack Dennerlein<\/li>\n<li>September 2013 &#8211; August 2017<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>An Integrated Approach to Hearing Preservation Among Construction Workers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NIOSH<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: The career development goals of this grant is to expand Dr. Cavallari\u2019s training in occupational health psychology, intervention research, and the NIOSH cross-sector areas of hearing loss and Total Worker Health<sup>TM<\/sup>.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Jennifer Cavallari, Sc.D., C.I.H.<\/li>\n<li>September 2015 &#8211; August 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>CT Worker&#8217;s Compensation Commission MOA<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CT Workers Compensation Commission<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: The development, evaluation, and reporting of surveillance activities to identify and prevent occupational disease.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Tim Morse<\/li>\n<li>July 2010 &#8211; Current<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>MOU &#8211; Occupational Health Clinics<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CT Department of Labor<\/li>\n<li>Major Goal: Through the use of the Occupational Medicine clinic services, will provide diagnoses, treatment, and preventative services to individuals with occupational diseases.<\/li>\n<li>Principal Investigator: Marc Croteau, M.D., M.P.H.<\/li>\n<li>July 2005 &#8211;
