Epilepsy Fellowship<\/div><\/h3>

The UConn School of Medicine\/Hartford HealthCare Epilepsy Fellowship is an ACGME accredited one-year program which is primarily based at Hartford Hospital, a NAEC designated level IV epilepsy center. Fellows also gain structured clinical experience at UConn Health and Connecticut Children\u2019s.<\/p>\n

We are highly committed to foster the development of well-rounded, competent epileptologists. Our fellows will optimize their skills in six ACGME core competencies: patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice to a level of independence appropriate to progress into a subspecialty epilepsy practice. Clinical experience is complemented by a series of didactic lectures, an array of clinical and scientific conferences, and a journal club. Fellows also gain teaching experience in their interactions with Neurology residents, medical students, and allied health professionals.<\/p>\n

We participate in the\u00a0National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)<\/span><\/a>. Candidates are encouraged to apply through the NRMP website for epilepsy fellowship position starting 2024.<\/p>\n

Headache Fellowship<\/div><\/h3>

Our distinguished one-year program, accredited by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties (UCNS), provides a unique opportunity for individuals aspiring to advance their expertise in the field of headache medicine, offering a comprehensive blend of clinical and research experiences.<\/p>\n

During their training, fellows will have the privilege of working with a diverse patient population, including adults with a wide spectrum of primary and secondary headache and craniofacial pain disorders, all in an outpatient setting. They will gain proficiency in performing advanced procedures such as nerve blocks, trigger point injections, and BOTOX\u00ae<\/span> administration.<\/p>\n

To further enrich their knowledge, our program incorporates weekly didactic lectures and dedicates academic research time within the fellow\u2019s schedule. This deliberate allocation of time empowers our trainees to delve into specific areas of interest, conduct meaningful research, and even author research articles, ensuring their comprehensive growth as future leaders in the field of headache medicine.<\/p>\n

Movement Disorders Fellowship<\/div><\/h3>

UConn Health and Hartford HealthCare offer advanced training in movement disorders for neurologists. The program allows neurologists to gain experience managing the care of patients with Parkinson\u2019s disease (PD) and other movement disorders. Fellows also gain proficiency in deep brain stimulation (DBS) programming, intrajejunal levodopa pump programming and botulinum toxin injections. Opportunities for investigator-initiated studies and participation in multicenter clinical trials are also available.<\/p>\n

A new fellow is accepted annually for this 1-year program. Candidates must have completed a 4-year ACGME accredited Neurology residency program prior to starting their fellowship.<\/p>\n

Neuromuscular Fellowship<\/div><\/h3>

UConn Health, in collaboration with Hospital for Special Care and Hartford Hospital, offers advanced training in neuromuscular disorders. The program allows neurologists to gain experience managing the care of neuromuscular conditions and to be proficient with electromyography (EMG) procedure and muscle biopsy analysis. A new fellow is accepted annually for this 1-year program. Candidates must have completed an adult or pediatric neurology residency, or physical medicine and rehab residency, prior to the fellowship. View Neuromuscular Fellowship Program<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Stroke Fellowship<\/div><\/h3>

The Vascular Neurology Fellowship is a one-year ACGME accredited clinical fellowship in cerebrovascular disease and stroke. In contrast to many other programs, fellows have the unique opportunity of training at two health care systems. Hartford Hospital is a tertiary care comprehensive stroke center caring for over 1,100 stroke patients annually providing a full, immersive experience in cutting edge, state-of-the-art technology, dedicated neurocritical care, dedicated stroke teams, neurointerventional services, vascular neurosurgery, and a tremendous track for academic and scholarly activity. The University of Connecticut is a thrombectomy-capable, primary stroke center with an array of services and expertise. Both experiences enhance the learning experience and allow for a true experience of practicing in both types of settings. Our fellows consistently complete several research projects, participate in stroke simulation at our Center for Simulation and Education as well as present at regional and international conferences.<\/p>\n

In collaboration with Yale and Brown, Hartford Hospital is part of STROKENET and a core member of the Southern New England Partnership in Stroke Research, Innovation and Treatment (SPIRIT)<\/a>. Through this collaboration, fellows can work with faculty from other institutions, participate in NIH STROKENET trials, and expand their academic ambitions beyond their current institution. A separate one-year STROKENET fellowship, an NIH funded position allows for additional training in stroke research, available at Hartford Hospital as an academic track.<\/p>\n
