Welcome to the University of Connecticut Foot and Ankle Fellowship. We have developed a comprehensive foot and ankle training program to develop highly competent surgeons. By teaming with Hartford Hospital and the Bone and Joint Institute, fellows have the opportunity to participate in the care of complicated trauma patients. During their time at UConn Health, they will have access to world-class biomechanics, research, and bioskills facilities and exposure to an academic practice. At Orthopedic Associates of Hartford, fellows will be exposed to a private practice model and a state-of-the-art surgery center. We believe we can provide a complete education that includes all varieties of foot and ankle pathology in a diverse patient population. Fellows will have the opportunity to see patients in the office 1-2 days per week and will interact with patients both in an academic and private practice setting. They will evaluate and treat patients with a wide variety of pathology, including sports injuries, deformity, arthritis, complex traumas, and pediatric cases. The curriculum is designed to allow fellows longitudinal care of their patients from the initial evaluation through postoperative care.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tOperating Room<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Fellows will spend 2-3 days per week in the operating room at UConn Health, Hartford Hospital, the\u00a0Bone and Joint Institute<\/a>, and the\u00a0Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center<\/a>. They will be exposed to a wide range of surgeries, including pediatric surgery, acute and chronic trauma, reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and arthroscopic surgery. Operating rooms at these centers are state-of-the-art with the most up-to-date technology. Fellows will be given graduated responsibility at a pace commensurate with their background, skill, and level of training.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\tBioskills Laboratory<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tExpand<\/i><\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery operates an onsite Bioskills Lab with a full complement of orthopaedic instruments, arthroscopy equipment, c-arm, simulators, and access to cadaveric specimens. At least 5 times per year, bioskills labs will be held with cadaveric specimens and implants focusing on specific procedures. In addition, the lab is available to trainees 24\/7 with access to anatomical models and can evaluate new technology when needed.<\/p>\n
