UConn Health MS Community

The UConn MS Center is proud to be an involved member of the MS community. We offer resources for our patients, their families and their caregivers to help them cope with an MS diagnosis.

MS Education Series and Support Group

The MS Center hosts community education events on the second Wednesday of every month from 2-3 p.m. The virtual events are free and feature speakers from UConn Health and other MS organizations.

Walk MS

UConn Health is a proud sponsor of Walk MS. Walk MS brings people together to raise funds that are funneled into support programs for people with MS and research to find new and better ways to treat MS.

Known Risk Factors of MS

No one knows the cause of MS, but there have been some risk factors associated with an increased chance of having it. The following groups are at greater odds to receive an MS diagnosis:

  • Women
  • People with obesity
  • People who live in a colder climate.
  • Caucasians
  • African American women
  • African American men over 50
  • People with a family history of MS
  • People who have been diagnosed with another immune disorder
  • Smokers
