initial; 1 bottle per room.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Receiving New Animals<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Spray boxes with Clidox before entry into GTTF.<\/li>\n<li>Boxes are sprayed a second time in Laminar Flow Hood.<\/li>\n<li>Examine overall exterior condition of box.<\/li>\n<li>Check receiver information with label on box.<\/li>\n<li>Check contents on box ( ex: correct strain, sex and overall health).<\/li>\n<li>Notify CCM office of any problems.<\/li>\n<li>Follow special husbandry procedures on receiver.<\/li>\n<li>House mice appropriately (CCM standard operating procedures).<\/li>\n<li>Complete receiver (number of mice received and number of cages).<\/li>\n<li>Add total number of cages to inventory sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Bring receiver to CCM office.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Use of Shoe Covers<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Shoe covers need to be changed when exiting or entering the GTTF hallway.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Changing Cages (Micro-Isolators)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Alternate major change\/partial major change every other week.<\/li>\n<li>A minor change being the second change for the week.<\/li>\n<li>Add a nestlet if cage does not contain nesting material.<\/li>\n<li>Shelf racks replaced every four weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sterile Procedures for Entering Cages<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>New Clidox prepared every week (1:5:1 dilution).<\/li>\n<li>Soak cotton cloth with Clidox; wipe interior of Laminar Flow Hood.<\/li>\n<li>Discard cloth; wait five minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Wet a new cotton cloth with Clidox and leave in hood for disinfecting hands in between cages (continually soaking cloth).<\/li>\n<li>Place sterile cage under hood.<\/li>\n<li>Remove cage top; place to one side.<\/li>\n<li>Wipe hands on Clidox cloth.<\/li>\n<li>Enter into sterile micro-environment.<\/li>\n<li>Check water bottle level; level should not be full; level should be at bottom of neck of bottle.<\/li>\n<li>Remember that inside cage components are sterile; outside cage components are considered dirty; NEVER LET OUSIDE COMPONENTS TOUCH INSIDE STERILE ENVIRONMENT.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Daily Cage Monitoring<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Observe animal health.<\/li>\n<li>Check feed and water levels.<\/li>\n<li>Change cages that appear wet or flooded.<\/li>\n<li>Report any births, sick or dead animals to colony management staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Special Feeding Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Necessary for weanlings and young C57Bl\/6, Transgenics, Malocclusions and overall \"sick\" mice:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Place a sterile Petri dish with autoclaved granular Harlan 7012 diet on floor of cage.<\/li>\n<li>Replace as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Put a yellow \"monitor food\" card on cage.<\/li>\n<li>Gel food may be added to cage in a sterile Petri dish for mice that appear dehydrated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Pregnant Mice<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Place a \"please separate\" card on cage for harem mating units.<\/li>\n<li>Colony management staff will separate females and provide a nestlet.<\/li>\n<li>Do not change cage two days before birth.<\/li>\n<li>Do not change cage until pups are at least three days old.<\/li>\n<li>Pups are transferred into clean cage with previous nestlet if not excessively soiled.<\/li>\n<li>Place food on cage bottom.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Recording Litters<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Note date of litter on birth card.<\/li>\n<li>Write \"wean\" date; 21 days from birth date.<\/li>\n<li>Inform Colony Management staff of new litters or missing litters.<\/li>\n<li>Turn card around to \"please wean\" at 21 days.<\/li>\n<li>Don't count litter number until day three or more.<\/li>\n<li>If litter needs to be fostered notify Colony Management staff of birth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Supplies<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Sterile supplies and caging may be brought into the GTTF and rolled across sticky mats.<\/li>\n<li>Upon returning from the pass-through room shoe covers are taken off before walking through GTTF corridor and discarded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cleanliness of Work Area<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean Laminar Flow Hood after use with Clidox then 70 percent alcohol.<\/li>\n<li>Sweep floor after changing cages.<\/li>\n<li>Mop floor with Quatricide weekly.<\/li>\n<li>Clean sinks and counters weekly.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain GTTF hallway weekly.<\/li>\n<li>Check operational function of air purifiers in Procedure Rooms.<\/li>\n<li>Change wall filters every three months.<\/li>\n<li>Sanitize rooms every six months.<\/li>\n<li>Pull sticky mats daily.<\/li>\n<li>Racks placed in hallway for removal of dirty cages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Exiting Dirty Supplies To Washroom<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Cover all caging.<\/li>\n<li>Remove plastic bags from water bottles.<\/li>\n<li>Leave dirty caging at end of GTTF hallway;
