What is Tiger Text

Tiger Text is a Mobile and Web Based app that gives you all of the speed and convenience of text messaging in a HIPAA compliant manner.

UConn Health Approach

This is a new way for Residents and Faculty to communicate via a multi-platform, secure, real-time text messaging system. Tiger Text enhances employee communication and productivity, while maintaining compliance with HIPPA, and is available on most mobile device platforms.
*Please note that MobileIron must be installed on your mobile device to use this App.

What devices are supported?

Apple Devices(iOS)

Minimum operating system (OS) required – iOS 6.0 or newer is recommended for any Apple Device.
Supported devices include, but are not limited to:

  1. iPad 1, 2, 3, 4
  2. iPad Air
  3. iPad Mini and Mini with Retina
  4. iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S
  5. iPod Touch 3, 4, 5

Android Devices

Minimum operating system (OS) required – 2.3 and above.
Supported devices include, but are not limited to:

  1. HTC Evo 4G LTE, Incredible
  2. Motorola Droid Razr
  3. Samsung Galaxy S2, S3
  4. Samsung Note II, III
  5. Nexus7 Tablet

What web browsers are compatible with Tiger Text’s Web Console?

Compatible web browsers include Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer (IE), and Safari.
Below you will find the compatible versions for each web browser.

What should I expect after installing Tiger Text?

  1. Secure text messaging from your smartphone, tablet or computer
  2. Tracks the status of the message so you know if it has been read
  3. Allows you to send photos and audio files securely
  4. Does not use cell phone text messages or minutes
  5. Option to turn on “Do Not Disturb” with a custom auto-reply message when you are not available

How do I get started with Tiger-Text?

Make sure that your device meets UCHC mobile device policy standards (MobileIron is installed) and then sign the University of Connecticut Health Center Guidelines for Use of Tiger Text form.It can then be faxed to 860-679-1991. You can find the form here: UConn Health Tiger Text Guidelines.Once you have completed these prerequisites, you can then download the Tiger-Text application to your phone.

Are there any other prerequisites to downloading and installing Tiger Text?

In addition to signing the UConn Health Guidelines for the usage of Tiger-Text, End Users who wish to utilize Tiger-Text must also have MobileIron security software provisioned on their phone.


Where do I download Tiger Text?

If you have an Android phone, it can be found in the Google Play Store and if you have an iPhone, it can be downloaded via the App Store. Caution: You will want to download the version with the icon TT.Your quick reference guide can be found here: Getting Started with TigerText on Mobile


What smart phones will Tiger Text work with?

Tiger-Text will work with both Android and Apple iPhone. Windows Mobile and Blackberry are currently not supported.


What are the costs involved in getting Tiger Text?

There is no cost to you. The UConn Health Departments supporting this initiative have covered the costs for their users.


Is Tiger-Text in compliance with the UConn Health mobile device policy?

The use of Tiger-text on your mobile device is considered in compliance provided that your mobile device is provisioned with MobileIron and that the “Use of Tiger-Text Guidelines” is followed.Please refer to the Tiger-Text usage guidelines located here: UConn Health Tiger Text Guidelines.

How do I use Tiger-Text from my computer?

Can I use TigerText to contact residents from other hospitals?

The ability to contact residents from other hospitals is on our road map.


What is the life span of a Tiger Text Message?

Message life is 24 hours.


What are my login credentials?

Your UCHC email address and password are your log in credentials.


How do I find coworkers that are participating in Tiger-Text?
