Clinical Business Systems and Integration consists of four distinct teams. Each offers a variety of technical support products and services to the UConn Health clinical enterprise. These services range from researching to designing, developing, and implementing clinical systems solutions as well as providing ongoing maintenance and operational support for the UConn Health portfolio of clinical applications.
Integration Services
The Integration Team develops, maintains and supports over 300 HL7, XML, real time and batch file clinical system interfaces. This team provides 24/7 support and is responsible for ensuring that all of the patient data that flows between critical patient-centered applications does so reliably and securely.

Epic EMR System
UConn Health uses the Epic Electronic Medical Record system. Implemented in April 2018. Many helpful links, tip sheets, and updates are available in this location.
Clinical Systems
The Clinical Applications Team is responsible for a portfolio of key patient systems used throughout the enterprise. These systems include a variety of ancillary applications including, ED Pulsecheck and eHIMS which are critical to UConn Health’s clinical operation.
The eHIMS, application, which was deployed in May of 2009, provides a central electronic repository for all inpatient records. This system is also utilized by various administrative groups for billing and service information validation and reporting needs. The eHIMS application accepts data and reports of all formats and stores it electronically for each encounter at UConn Health.
Beyond standard day-to-day support of their clinical applications portfolio this team also addresses enhancement needs, provides project management of upgrades, and services customized data analysis and reporting needs related to their supported applications.

NextGen Systems
The NextGen product, a legacy EMR application for all UConn Health’s physician offices has been sunset, replaced by Epic. NextGen EMR data is available in eHIMS. Portions of the NextGen EMR information has also been archived into the Health Data Archiver product (HDA). This archived data is available via linked connections in Epic.

Siemens/Cerner Systems
The Siemens/Cerner LCR product, a legacy EHR application, has been sunset, replaced by Epic. Data stored in this EHR is available in eHIMS, including Computerized Physician Order Entry, Patient Discharge Instructions, Patient Care Documentation, Medication Reconciliation. Portions of this information is also in the process of being archived into the Health Data Archiver product (HDA). The archived data will be available via linked connections in Epic.
