{"id":1422,"date":"2021-01-19T11:46:55","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T16:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/healthcare-compliance-privacy\/?p=1422"},"modified":"2021-01-19T11:46:55","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T16:46:55","slug":"changes-to-open-payments-5-new-provider-types-added","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/healthcare-compliance-privacy\/2021\/01\/19\/changes-to-open-payments-5-new-provider-types-added\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to Open Payments: 5 New Provider Types Added"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Open Payments is an online program and public website that <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/healthcare-compliance-privacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/253\/2021\/01\/Transparency-Healthcare-square.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/healthcare-compliance-privacy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/253\/2021\/01\/Transparency-Healthcare-square-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"287\" height=\"287\" class=\"wp-image-1433 alignright\" \/><\/a>provides information about financial relationships between drug and medical device manufacturers and healthcare providers.<\/p>\n<p>Drug and device companies must report certain payments or other transfers of value they make to physicians and teaching hospitals, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consulting fees<\/li>\n<li>Speaking fees<\/li>\n<li>Honoraria<\/li>\n<li>Payments for research activities<\/li>\n<li>Ownership or investment interests<\/li>\n<li>Meals and travel\/lodging<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) then posts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cms.gov\/OpenPayments\">reported data online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Effective January 1, 2021, <strong>drug and device manufacturers must also report payments or other transfers of value they make to the following additional provider types<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physician assistants<\/li>\n<li>Nurse practitioners<\/li>\n<li>Clinical nurse specialists<\/li>\n<li>Certified registered nurse anesthetists and Anesthesiologist assistants<\/li>\n<li>Certified nurse-midwives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Healthcare providers themselves are not required to report data to Open Payments.
