The Veterans Health Administration (VA) is an integrated health care system\u00a0 that provides medical care to 9 million Veterans across the U.S. The VA is a single-payer system with more than 1,200 hospitals, clinics and other facilities <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that together address the diverse needs of the growing Veteran population. Additionally, there are health and mental health issues of importance in the Veteran population. The purpose of this module is to describe the Veterans Health Administration, discuss health disparities and inequities facing Veterans, and provide some resources to help mitigate these inequities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Learning Objectives<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>By the end of the session, learners will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">List the demographics of Veterans in the United States.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Describe what the VA system is and how it delivers health care to our Veterans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Describe health disparities and health issues of importance in the Veteran population.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compare the substance use and mental health of Veterans to that of the general population.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discuss homelessness in the Veteran population and the efforts to mitigate homelessness in your state. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">List resources to address inequities facing Veterans.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Required Assignments:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wong C.
