{"id":557,"date":"2016-05-11T13:57:20","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T17:57:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/?page_id=557"},"modified":"2019-06-20T12:51:18","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T16:51:18","slug":"health-insurance-advance-initiative","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/health-insurance-advance-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Insurance Advance Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-557\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-557-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-557-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-557-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">Enhance the Value of Health Insurance for all CT Citizens<\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><em>Funded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cthealth.org\/\">The Connecticut Health Foundation<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">In this 5-year Health Insurance Advance strategic initiative, HDI has proposed and completed the following:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-557-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><table border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>2015<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Host\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/2015\/12\/02\/health-insurance-literacy-symposium-in-the-news\/\">Health Insurance Literacy Symposium<\/a>\u00a0to promote awareness of the importance of health insurance literacy among CT decision makers<\/li>\n<li>Raise awareness of how the complex insurance system is a structural barrier to selection and use of health insurance as discussed in Dr. Villagra's article: <a href=\"https:\/\/reformtotransform.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/r2t-policy-briefs-2-0-simplifying-health-insurance-final2.pdf\">\u00a0the value of simplifying health insurance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2016<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete research documenting pervasive Health Insurance Literacy (HIL) deficits especially among people of color<\/li>\n<li>In November and December 2016,\u00a0 host a planning webinar for the <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/equal-coverage-to-care-coalition\/\">Equal Coverage to Care coalition<\/a>, and a a 25-organization in-person <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/2016\/12\/16\/equal-coverage-to-care-coalition-retreat\/\">retreat<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2017<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Establish the <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/equal-coverage-to-care-coalition\/\">Equal Coverage to Care Coalition<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Host the <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/health-insurance-simplification-seminar-series-2017-2\/\">Health Insurance Simplification Seminar Series<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Disseminate <a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/health-disparities\/health-insurance-literacy-survey-report\/\">Reporting of Health Insurance Literacy\/Well Being Survey Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Test a health insurance educational program among CT (predominantly non-white) residents; Results found HIL scores improved<\/li>\n<li>Partner with the CT Office of the Healthcare Advocate on medical debt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>2018<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Set the HI Simplification Policy Agenda<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate with Access Health CT to incorporate the HIL survey and education into the pre-open enrollment process.
