For the Health Disparities Clinical Summer Research Fellowship Program,\u00a0<\/em>Medical\/Dental Preparatory Program, and <\/em>Summer Research Fellowship Program.<\/em><\/p>\n

Please review the program website and these frequently asked questions (FAQs) prior to submitting your application. We are happy to answer your questions during the application submission process. Many of the questions that you may have about these Aetna Health Professions Partnership Initiative (Aetna HPPI) programs and the submission process are addressed in these FAQs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Programs<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div>

For the Health Disparities Clinical Summer Research Fellowship Program, do I need to have prior clinical or research experience?<\/div><\/h3>

Participants of the Health Disparities Clinical Summer Research Fellowship Program do not need to have previous research experience but must demonstrate a high probability of fulfilling the social and educational goals of this program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

How do I find a community sponsor, or know what type of research has been done before?<\/div><\/h3>

Once accepted to the program, you will be matched with a community sponsor based on your interests. For a list of community sponsoring organizations from the previous program, please see the program handbook.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

For the Medical\/Dental Preparatory Program, do I need to have prior exposure to the MCAT or DAT?<\/div><\/h3>

The program is most beneficial to those who are already familiar with the MCAT or DAT exam. The program is not intended to teach all of the concepts of the various content areas of either exam, but is instead intended to help one further their preparation with strategies and test taking skills to be most successful. It is best that applicants have taken the required premedical\/predental courses prior to applying to this program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

If I have already taken the MCAT or DAT, can I still apply to the Medical\/Dental Preparatory Program?<\/div><\/h3>

You may still apply; however, previous scores must be submitted with your completed application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

For the Summer Research Fellowship Program, do I need to have prior research experience?<\/div><\/h3>

Participants of the Summer Research Fellowship Program do not need to have previous research experience. However, they must demonstrate preparation for a laboratory research experience through academic excellence in coursework in biology and chemistry (preferably through organic chemistry) and demonstrate a high probability of fulfilling the social and educational goals of this program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

How do I find a faculty sponsor or know what type of research has been done before?<\/div><\/h3>

Accepted participants are responsible for finding a faculty sponsor to work with for their summer project. Research opportunities will be provided by the program with a list of faculty who are participating in the Summer Research Fellowship Program. Once accepted to the program, participants should contact faculty members who they are interested in working with to determine availability. Recommendations for faculty sponsors will also be offered based on your interest expressed in your application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do the Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs provide housing and meals?<\/div><\/h3>

The Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs provide housing and meals. Once accepted to the program, specific housing and meal information will be provided. Please note that you are required to live in the designated housing facility for the program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do the Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs provide transportation?<\/div><\/h3>

The Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs provide transportation to and from the dorms and UConn Health. Participants of the Health Disparities Clinical Summer Research Fellowship Program will also be provided transportation to and from their community sites. Additional transportation is also provided for any enrichment trips.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do the Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs provide a stipend?<\/div><\/h3>

A stipend is provided at the end of the programs to all accepted participants who successfully complete their specific program by fulfilling all program requirements. Failure to do so will result in the forfeit of stipend.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

How do I submit my application?<\/div><\/h3>

Applications for each Aetna HPPI college enrichment program must be completed through the online application system and submitted electronically. Only applications submitted through the online system\u00a0will be considered.<\/em> Please note that your typed name is sufficient as an electronic signature for the application.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

How do I submit my supporting documents?<\/div><\/h3>

All supporting documents must be submitted electronically via the online application system. *Please note that only official transcripts will be sent to hcop@uchc.edu<\/a>. Official transcripts that cannot be sent electronically as an e-Script to hcop@uchc.edu<\/a> can be sent as hard copies mailed to:<\/p>\n

Should my letters of recommendation be submitted by me or by my recommenders?<\/div><\/h3>

Letters of recommendation must be submitted by the recommender using the specified link for the receipt. The link is sent directly to your recommenders when you submit the online application. All letters of recommendation must contain an official signature by the recommender and be on official institution letterhead. It is the applicant\u2019s responsibility to confirm with their recommenders that all letters are submitted by the deadline.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do my transcripts need to be official?<\/div><\/h3>

Transcripts must be official and sent as official e-Scripts or official hard copies (if e-Script is not available). Unofficial transcripts will not be considered.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do you need a score report of all my standardized tests?<\/div><\/h3>

Yes, score reports for all standardized tests including SAT, ACT, PEAU, GRE, and MCAT or DAT are needed to complete your application. These reports can be sent as an official copy, scanned copy, or screen shot that includes your name and all official scores. If your undergraduate institution did not require you to take the SAT, ACT, or an equivalent exam for admission, please submit an official letter from your institution stating that this requirement was waived.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

I took the SAT and\/or ACT when I was in high school and do not have my scores or can no longer obtain my scores through College Board. Are these scores still required?<\/div><\/h3>

All SAT and\/or ACT or an equivalent exam scores must be submitted. You can check with your college or university for record of your score. If you did not take the SAT, ACT or an equivalent exam because your institution did not require them, please send official documentation stating so as mentioned in the previous question.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Is a current Federal Tax Form 1040 or Equivalent required with my application? What if I (or my parents\/guardians) have not filed federal taxes for the current year?<\/div><\/h3>

A current Federal Tax Form 1040 or Equivalent is required to complete your application. Only the 1040 Form with just the page reflecting number of dependents and adjusted gross income (when completed and filed with IRS) is needed. If you (or your parents\/guardians if you are listed as their dependent) will not file before the February submission deadline, please submit a Tax Form 1040 or Equivalent for the previous year with your application until the current form is available. Please note that a current form must be submitted once filed.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Can I apply to more than one program at a time?<\/div><\/h3>

You can only apply to one<\/strong> program for a given summer. As noted on the application, you must select only one<\/strong> program that you are interested in applying to. Please note that an applicant can apply for other programs in subsequent years as long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Do all supporting materials need to be received by the final deadline for my application to be considered complete?<\/div><\/h3>

Yes, all supporting documents must be submitted through the online application system and only official transcripts as e-Scripts to hcop@uchc.edu<\/a> (or postal mall if e-Script is not available) and received no later than the February submission deadline. Applications are considered by the Admissions Committee when they are complete. Applicants should understand that it is their responsibility that all materials are submitted, including letters of recommendation, which must be submitted directly by recommenders.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

How will I know that my application and supporting materials have been received on time?<\/div><\/h3>

Applicants will receive notification about materials that have been received if they have submitted materials prior to the deadline. It is best to allow for sufficient time for all materials to be received by the February submission deadline.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

What is the typical schedule like for the Aetna HPPI college summer enrichment programs?<\/div><\/h3>

A typical day is from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evenings and weekends are your own time, except when there are mandatory activities. You are strongly encouraged to use time in the evenings or on weekends to study, meet with Resident Assistant tutors, or work on research projects. Regular classes and activities are not scheduled on the Juneteenth and July 4th Independence holiday observances.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
