These biannual retreats are a core component of the HDLT and are designed to deepen learners\u2019 understanding of how health inequities are addressed outside of traditional clinical settings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Each retreat centers on one of four community domains:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)<\/li>\n<li>Community Legal Aid and Health Policy<\/li>\n<li>Community-Based Health Organizations<\/li>\n<li>Departments of Public Health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The retreats emphasize experiential learning and direct engagement with community partners. Participants spend time learning about organizational missions, funding structures, operational challenges, and the real-world impact of programs designed to address social and structural drivers of health.<\/p>\n<p>For example, during the inaugural retreat, participants visited the Chrysalis Center, where they learned about its wide range of workforce development and community outreach initiatives, including a hydroponic garden that provides fresh fruits and vegetables to the surrounding community. In the afternoon, the group visited Hands On Hartford to explore their comprehensive approach to addressing food insecurity and community well-being, including a shared meal at Gather55, their social enterprise restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>These retreats provide learners with meaningful exposure to community-led solutions, reinforce the principles taught in the HDLT curriculum, and foster sustained partnerships between trainees and the communities they serve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biannual Community Retreats Twice each year, residents and fellows in the Health Disparities and Leadership Track participate in protected, community-focused retreats.
