Interviews are offered on a rolling basis and conducted virtually for selected candidates.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Applicants must meet\u00a0<strong>one<\/strong>\u00a0of the following qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduate of a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by the\u00a0<strong>LCME<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>AOA<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Graduate of a foreign medical school and either:\n<ul>\n<li>Hold a valid\u00a0<strong>ECFMG<\/strong>\u00a0certificate, or<\/li>\n<li>Have completed a Fifth-Pathway Program from an LCME-accredited institution, or<\/li>\n<li>Possess a full and unrestricted U.S. medical license.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful completion of an\u00a0<strong>Anesthesiology<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Emergency Medicine<\/strong>\u00a0residency before the fellowship start date.<\/li>\n<li>Passage of\u00a0<strong>USMLE Steps 1, 2, and 3<\/strong>\u00a0(or equivalent licensing examinations).<\/li>\n<li>Applicants from Emergency Medicine backgrounds complete a two-year fellowship to meet\u00a0<strong>American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)<\/strong> certification requirements for certification in Critical Care Medicine.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/graduate-medical-education\/eligibility-requirements-and-selection\/\">View more information on UConn Specific Eligibility Requirements and Selection.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Selection Criteria<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Candidates are selected through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfmatch.org\/specialty\/critical-care-anesthesiology-fellowship\/Overview\">SF Match<\/a> based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic performance and residency evaluations.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated clinical aptitude and procedural proficiency in critical care environments.<\/li>\n<li>Professionalism, teamwork, and communication skills.<\/li>\n<li>Motivation, integrity, and leadership potential.<\/li>\n<li>Strength and relevance of letters of recommendation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Application Requirements<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Applicants should submit the following via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfmatch.org\/specialty\/critical-care-anesthesiology-fellowship\/Overview\">SF Match<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Curriculum Vitae (CV):<\/strong><br \/>\nA comprehensive and up-to-date CV outlining educational background, clinical experience, research involvement, scholarly activity (publications, abstracts, presentations), teaching or simulation roles, and participation in quality improvement or patient safety projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal Statement:<\/strong><br \/>\nA brief essay describing your motivation for pursuing Critical Care Medicine, relevant experiences, and long-term professional goals.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Letters of Recommendation (3 total):<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Standard Critical Care Applicants:<\/strong>\u00a0One from the\u00a0<strong>Residency Program Director<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>two from ICU faculty<\/strong>\u00a0who have directly supervised the applicant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dual Cardiac and Critical Care Applicants:<\/strong>\u00a0One from the\u00a0<strong>Residency Program Director<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>one from ICU faculty<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>one from a Cardiac Anesthesiology faculty member<\/strong>\u00a0familiar with the applicant\u2019s clinical work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>USMLE\/COMLEX\/ECFMG<\/strong>\u00a0documentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Visa Sponsorship<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible.<\/li>\n<li>For IMGs, the program sponsors\u00a0<strong>J-1 visas only<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>H-1B<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>O-1<\/strong>\u00a0visas are not sponsored.<\/li>\n<li>Applicants must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of appointment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Dual Fellowship Track (Cardiac Anesthesia and Critical Care)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Fellows interested in advanced multidisciplinary training may apply for the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Combined Cardiac Anesthesia and Critical Care Fellowship<\/strong>, which provides an integrated two-year experience in<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Trainees pursuing a dual or sequential fellowship in<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Critical Care Medicine<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia <\/strong>should refer to the official<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/socca.memberclicks.net\/fellowships-overview\"><strong>Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA) guidance<\/strong><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>for details regarding application sequencing, timing, and match exception policies.<\/p>\n<p>UConn typically offers the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Critical Care Medicine Fellowship first<\/strong>, followed by the<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellowship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Dual applicants are eligible for a<span>\u00a0<\/span><strong>match exception<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>under SOCCA guidelines if they commit to training at UConn for more than one year. This formal exception allows the program to offer both positions simultaneously within the SF Match framework.
