Fellows rotate through diverse ICUs across UConn Health, Hartford Hospital, and The Hospital of Central Connecticut, gaining exposure to a broad range of critically ill patient populations.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Fellowship<br \/>\n(ACGME-Accredited <\/span><span class=\"cf1\">\u2013 1 Year)<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf1\">Core Rotations:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf1\"><strong>4 Blocks<\/strong> \u2013 Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>4 Blocks<\/strong> \u2013 Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>1 Block<\/strong> \u2013 Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NSICU)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>1 Block<\/strong> \u2013 Coronary Care Unit (CCU)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>0.5 Block<\/strong> \u2013 Critical \/>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Critical Care Boot Camp<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf0\">The fellowship begins with a <strong>Critical Care Boot Camp<\/strong> conducted at the <a href=\"https:\/\/hartfordhealthcare.org\/health-professionals\/education\/cesi\">Center for Education, Simulation, and Innovation (CESI) <\/a><\/span><span class=\"cf1\">\u2014 a 40,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art simulation center.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"cf1\">During this immersive orientation, fellows receive hands-on instruction in:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf1\">Recognition and management of <strong>shock, sepsis, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Bronchoscopy, arterial\/central\/pulmonary artery catheterization, and ECMO cannulation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Advanced airway management, ECPR, and assessment of brain death<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Hemodynamic monitoring<\/strong> (Swan-Ganz, continuous SVO\u2082, Pulse contour analysis, Non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, dynamic arterial elastance)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Advanced mechanical ventilation<\/strong> strategies (APRV, lung-protective modes, weaning protocols)<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Surface echocardiography and TEE<\/strong> for hemodynamic and cardiac assessment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Fellow Teaching and Interprofessional Collaboration<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf0\">Following Boot Camp, fellows actively engage in <strong>resident education<\/strong> as s<strong>imulation instructors-in-training<\/strong>, leading modules on the recognition and management of <strong>shock, sepsis, traumatic brain injury<\/strong>, and <strong>vascular access techniques<\/strong> (arterial and central venous catheterization).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf0\">Daily ICU rounds are supported by an <strong>interprofessional team<\/strong> that includes <strong>nursing<\/strong>, <strong>respiratory therapy<\/strong>, and <strong>pharmacy<\/strong>, reinforcing a collaborative, team-based approach to critical care.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Core Procedural and Technical Skills<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf0\">Throughout the year, fellows gain advanced experience in:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><span class=\"cf1\"><strong>Hemodynamic monitoring<\/strong> \u2013 pulmonary artery catheterization, continuous SVO\u2082, stroke volume variation, pulse pressure variation, systolic pressure variation, dynamic arterial elastance, non-invasive cardiac output monitoring<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Mechanical circulatory support<\/strong> \u2013 ECMO, IABP, VAD<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Advanced respiratory therapies<\/strong> \u2013 APRV, various weaning and recruitment modalities<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Ultrasonography<\/strong> \u2013 surface echocardiography and TEE<\/li>\n<li class=\"pf0\"><strong>Procedural interventions<\/strong> \u2013 tube thoracostomy, bronchoscopy, paracentesis and ECPR<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"cf1\">These skills are integral to the fellowship\u2019s goal of producing highly competent intensivists capable of managing complex, multisystem critical illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pf0\"><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Vacation<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"cf0\">Fellows may take up to <strong>four weeks of vacation annually<\/strong>, typically one week per quarter, scheduled in
