Welcome<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Welcome to the UConn Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) Fellowship<\/strong>.
\n<\/span>This one-year multidisciplinary program<\/strong>, ACGME-accredited in 2024<\/strong>, offers comprehensive training in the care of critically ill patients across multiple specialties. <\/span><\/p>\n

We accept two fellows per year<\/strong>. Applicants from both Anesthesiology<\/strong> and Emergency Medicine<\/strong> residencies are eligible to apply through the San Francisco (SF) Match<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, Hartford HealthCare Hospitals<\/strong> offer a non-ACGME second-year Critical Care Fellowship<\/strong> designed for Emergency Medicine graduates seeking eligibility for American Board of Anesthesiology certification<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Program Mission<\/strong><\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

The UConn ACCM Fellowship aims to develop skilled, compassionate, and independent consultants<\/strong> who:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Demonstrate deep medical knowledge and sound clinical judgment.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Excel in procedural and cognitive critical care skills.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Advocate for patient safety and multidisciplinary collaboration.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Serve as educators, leaders, and role models within their institutions and communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Our fellows graduate as well-rounded intensivists<\/strong> prepared to manage diverse and complex critically ill populations with excellence and confidence.<\/span><\/p>\n

    <\/p>\n

    Clinical Training<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Fellows rotate through three major institutions, gaining exposure to a broad spectrum of critical care environments:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Hartford Hospital<\/strong> \u2013 an 867-bed Level I academic and tertiary referral center<\/strong>, among the largest in New England, with:<\/span>\n
        \n
      • Over 2,000 trauma admissions<\/strong> and 30,000 surgical procedures annually<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • More than 3,000 surgical ICU admissions<\/strong> each year across the Trauma\/Surgical ICU (C8I)<\/strong>, Cardiothoracic Surgical ICU (B2N & B3N)<\/strong>, and Neuro ICU (C9I & B9I)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • Additional exposure in the Coronary Care Unit (B10I)<\/strong> and Emergency Critical Care Unit (ECCU)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      • A total of 105 ICU beds (including MICU)<\/strong> and 58 step-down beds<\/strong>, offering continuity of care across the spectrum of critical illness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC)<\/strong> \u2013 a 414-bed community teaching hospital<\/strong> and Level III Trauma Center<\/strong> in New Britain and Southington.<\/span>\n
          \n
        • Features a 24-bed mixed medical\u2013surgical\u2013neuro ICU<\/strong>, offering broad exposure to trauma, postoperative, and community-based critical care.<\/li>\n
        • Fellows work closely with dedicated intensivists and APPs, gaining experience in independent clinical decision-making and procedural competency.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • UConn Health<\/strong> \u2013 John Dempsey Hospital<\/strong> \u2013 a 234-bed academic medical center<\/strong> in Farmington, CT.<\/span>\n
            \n
          • The 28-bed mixed Medical\u2013Surgical\u2013Neurocritical Care Unit<\/strong> provides exposure to multidisciplinary care under a closed ICU model<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          • Managed by intensivists from Anesthesiology, Surgery, Neurology, and Internal Medicine<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          • Fellows work alongside Pulmonary and Surgical Critical Care fellows<\/strong>, as well as residents and medical students, in a collaborative educational environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            This comprehensive, multi-institutional experience ensures that graduates emerge as highly trained intensivists<\/strong> capable of managing the sickest patients in any setting.<\/span><\/p>\n

            Education & Scholarly Activity<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n
              \n
            • Weekly didactic sessions<\/strong>, Morbidity and Mortality conferences<\/strong>, and journal clubs<\/strong> throughout the academic year.<\/span><\/li>\n
            • Fellows participate in simulation sessions<\/strong>, case discussions<\/strong>, and multidisciplinary teaching rounds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
            • Each fellow is expected to engage in scholarly activity<\/strong>, which may include:\n
                \n
              • Participation in ongoing research or quality improvement projects.<\/li>\n
              • Abstract or poster presentations at regional or national meetings.<\/li>\n
              • Manuscript or book chapter contributions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
