Thompson, M.D.<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Chief of Cariology, Emeritus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Thompson is Chief Emeritus in Division of Cardiology and sees patients in the Cholesterol Management Clinic, The Athletes Heart Program and continues to be active in Cardiovascular Research at Hartford Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>He previously was Profession of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh from 1992 to 1997 and on the faculty of Brown University from 1978 to 1992. He has authored over 160 scientific articles on topics which include: the effects of exercise training on preventive and treating heart disease; the risk of sudden death during exercise; the effects of statins on muscle function, and genetic factors affecting the exercise response. These research efforts have been supported by grants from foundations, the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. He was also an Associate Editor of the Textbook on Cardiovascular Medicine and the Editor of the book, Exercise and Sports Cardiology. He is a Past President of the American College of Sports Medicine.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Thompson\u2019s research and clinical interests in exercise originate from his personal interest in distance running. His internal Medicine training was done at Duke University Medical Center and cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. He completed a rotation internship in Venezuela before performing clinical clerkship in Internal Medicine at Lariboisiere Hospital, Paris, France. He did his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut. After his residency at UConn he was in non-invasive cardiology at Yale. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Brown University. His Internal Medicine training and Cardiology Fellowship were done at The University of Vermont. Her internal medicine training was done at University of Connecticut. She completed Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, Hartford Hospital.
