In the aggregate, 23 fellows have successfully completed the one year program.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Duration<\/h3>\n<p>The Preventive Cardiology Fellowship Program is designed as a one year commitment from July thru June.<\/p>\n<h3>Prerequisite Training and Selection Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>Completion of the ACGME Internal Medicine Residency Program or completion of ACGME Cardiovascular Fellowship Program. Factors for acceptance include recommendations, reputation of the training institution, personal experience, and probability that the trainee will both contribute to and benefit from the program.<\/p>\n<h3>Goals and Objectives for Training<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Preventive Cardiology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The clinical experiences in Preventive Cardiology teach fellows how to reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk by providing expert training in lipid management, LDL apheresis, hypertension treatment, management of adult onset diabetes, exercise physiology, cardiac are of the athlete, behavioral management of weight control and smoking cessation. Fellows also learn about the cardiovascular rehabilitation program and are involved in conducting trials and research projects in preventive cardiology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nuclear Cardiology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Nuclear Cardiology experience will provide the fellow with skills in nuclear cardiology procedures. This includes the performance of stress testing, interpretation of SPECT and PET imaging, cardiopulmonary exercise stress testing, and cardiac amyloid imaging.
