Supervising Faculty \u2013 Dr. Kevin Dieckhaus<\/p>\n

Fellows interested in global health have the opportunity to travel to Kisoro, Uganda for 4 week blocks during 1st and\/or 2nd year. Fellows rotate at Saint Francis Hospital Mutolere and the Clare Nsenga Clinic, where they experience the provision of medical care in resource poor areas first-hand. They participate in \u201cGlobal Health Bootcamp\u201d at home in preparation for the trip, and a Tropical Medicine curriculum of lectures and case studies while on site. Other global health destinations are available, including Sri Lanka, India, and several locations in Central and South America. Fellows are also able to work in Travel clinic and in the UConn Immigrant Health clinic, where they see newly arrived refugees, may perform CDC-mandated refugee health assessments, and provide green card exams to a diverse population of patients. The Uganda experience may be credited towards the requirement for overseas practical experience in a developing country\/tropical setting when applying for the ASTMH\u2019s Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health (CTropMed\u00ae Examination).<\/p>\n
