{"id":2692,"date":"2017-12-13T14:05:19","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T19:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/graduate-medical-education\/?page_id=2692"},"modified":"2026-02-10T14:09:01","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T19:09:01","slug":"application-and-interview-process","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/graduate-medical-education\/otolaryngology-residency-program\/application-and-interview-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Application and Interview Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-2692\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-2692-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-2692-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-2692-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>The University of Connecticut Otolaryngology Program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).<\/p>\n<p>To complete the application, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-residency\/applying-residencies-eras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ERAS.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Eligibility Criteria<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Prior Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graduates of AOA, accredited allopathic and osteopathic medical schools; foreign grads must have ECFMG.<\/li>\n<li>Medical school graduation must be within five years of residency application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/students-residents.aamc.org\/applying-residency\/applying-residencies-eras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ERAS application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dean\u2019s letter<\/li>\n<li>Medical school transcript<\/li>\n<li>Three letters of reference<\/li>\n<li>CV (with no unexplained gaps)<\/li>\n<li>USMLE\/COMLEX transcript (Both part 1 and part 2 must be passed prior to application)<\/li>\n<li>Personal statement<\/li>\n<li>Photo<\/li>\n<li>ECFMG if applicable<\/li>\n<li>We only accept J1 visas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Selection Criteria<\/h3>\n<p>The program selects from among eligible applicants based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical School transcript<\/li>\n<li>Dean\u2019s letter\/PD letter<\/li>\n<li>LOR<\/li>\n<li>USMLE\/COMLEX<\/li>\n<li>Interview<\/li>\n<li>Scholarly activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><span class=\"cf0\">Each year, the University of Connecticut Otolaryngology Residency Training Program receives approximately 400 applications from which 40 applicants are chosen to interview for 3 new positions per year. All applications are reviewed and interviews for prospective candidates are arranged based on their medical school record, research experience, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. There is no minimum score requirement. Interview invitations will be sent out by the end of the business day on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025.<\/span><!--EndFragment --><\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><span class=\"cf0\">Interviewed applicants are ranked on the basis of high moral, ethical and professional qualifications by the Resident Selection Committee for final selection in the Otolaryngology Matching Program.<\/span><!--EndFragment --><\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment --><span class=\"cf0\">We will be conducting our live interviews on December 12th and December 13th.
