We strive to<br \/>\nprovide our trainees with multiple options for a career when they complete the program, including clinical practice, academics, and research. Fellowship training is rapidly becoming necessary for most career choices following completion of a general surgery residency.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The program is to have a structure that develops residents in such a way that they will be able to apply for the appropriate<br \/>\nfellowship for them and be a strong candidate for any fellowship program.<\/li>\n<li>The program will be structured to provide a nurturing environment that promotes a diversity of career<br \/>\nchoices for our trainees. Further, resident well-being will be a priority.<\/li>\n<li>The program will develop all of our trainees into leaders and educate them on safety and quality<br \/>\nimprovement.<\/li>\n<li>The program will develop and emphasize the ability to teach others (students at all levels, nurses,<br \/>\nmid-level practitioners, trainees in other specialties).<\/li>\n<li>The program will utilize the most current education techniques including simulation to develop surgical<br \/>\nknowledge and surgical skills in our trainees.<\/li>\n<li>Trainees will play a prominent role in the programs leadership structure and have a significant role in<br \/>\ndeveloping program structure and curriculum.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The primary aim of the General Surgery Residency program at the University of Connecticut is to train competent surgeons in all facets of general surgery and enable them to pursue a career of choice.
