{"id":3598,"date":"2024-11-22T15:05:36","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T20:05:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/financial-aid\/?page_id=3598"},"modified":"2026-09-21T16:14:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T20:14:26","slug":"applying-for-institutional-aid","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/financial-aid\/applying\/applying-for-institutional-aid\/","title":{"rendered":"Applying for Institutional Aid"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-3598\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-3598-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-3598-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><u>THE 2027-2028 FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION SEASON WILL OPEN OCTOBER 1, 2027.\u00a0\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Institutional aid applicants can follow the following instructions to ensure their application and appropriate supplemental documents are submitted properly and on time.\u00a0 \u00a0Remember both the FAFSA and Institutional Aid Application must be submitted by February 15th to be on time.\u00a0 Applications received after that date will not be considered on time and will be reviewed after all on time applications have been processed.\u00a0 Please bear in mind all forms are submitted to our third party processor, Inceptia.\u00a0 <span data-teams=\"true\">If you are unable to provide parent information due to extenuating circumstances please contact our office for available options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Institutional aid is offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.\u00a0 The date a completed application is submitted, which includes all required wage and signed tax documents, a complete and signed institutional aid application and a complete FAFSA will determine a student\u2019s place in line.\u00a0 Institutional aid is need based and is not guaranteed.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"1\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Creating an Account<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>An e-mail from UConn Health with be sent to students with a link to access the 2027-2028 UCH Institutional Aid Application.\u00a0 Please use this link to create an account and sign in.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Continuing students can utilize the previous year's log in credentials.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 The following steps are required to create your account.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>\u00a0Please provide an e-mail address, password and multi-factor authentication option (either SMS or Authenticator App) to begin the process.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0You will be asked to verify your e-mail address.\u00a0 A verification message will be sent to the address provided.\u00a0 Please click the link within that message to verify your e-mail address.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Once verified, you will need to set up the procedure for multi-factor authentication;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>a. If you selected an authenticator app such as Duo Mobile you will need to set up your account with that app.<\/p>\n<p>b. If you selected SMS as the multi-factor authentication you will need to provide a phone number.\u00a0 A one-time password will then be sent to the phone number provided.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Once your account has been activated you will be asked to enter additional identifying information including your first and last names, a phone number, student ID, SSN and date of birth.<\/li>\n<li>Finally you will be asked if you would like to opt in to receive text messages regarding this account.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When your account has been completed you will be able to log into your account.\u00a0 There you will see the<strong> 2027-2028 UCH Institutional Aid Application <\/strong>on your to-do list.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"2\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Already Have an Account?<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>Log in with your existing e-mail, password and MFA using the link provided in the institutional aid application e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>If you forgot your password, click the\u00a0<strong>Forgot Your Password?<\/strong> button and an email will be sent prompting you to reset your password.<\/p>\n<p>Once logged in, the 2027-2028 UCH Institutional Aid Application will be added to your to-do list.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-3\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"3\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Application Completion<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>On your to-do list, click on the\u00a0<strong>2027-2028 UCH Institutional Aid Application<\/strong> and provide the following information:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Household, wage, tax &amp; financial information<\/li>\n<li>Upload required wage and tax documentation<\/li>\n<li>If you are married please provide the same information for your spouse.<\/li>\n<li>Student who <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>do not<\/strong><\/span> have legal dependents will need to also provide the above information for their parents\/guardians.<\/li>\n<li>Please digitally sign the 2027-2028 UCH Institutional Aid Application and submit.<\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Students and parents will be able to upload their documentation (wage and tax forms) directly into the application after creating their account. The maximum file size for documentation is 10mb per upload. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your application status will be\u00a0<strong>Submitted<\/strong> on your dashboard once your click\u00a0<strong>Complete<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-4\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"4\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Providing Parent\/Guardian Information<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>If you are required to provide parent\/guardian information they too will need to electronically sign.\u00a0 Please follow the steps below to gather the signature.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>A notification box will appear after you complete the 2027-2028 Institutional Aid Application.\u00a0 You will be asked to provide an e-mail address for your parent\/guardian.<\/li>\n<li>An invitation to create an account will then be sent to the e-mail address provided.\u00a0 The e-mail will come from <a href=\"mailto:inceptiacs@inceptia.org\">inceptiacs@inceptia.org<\/a><\/li>\n<li>This e-mail will contain a link that will direct the parent\/guardian to create an account with Inceptia.<\/li>\n<li>Once selected, the parent\/guardian will be taken to the\u00a0<strong>Sign in<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Account creation<\/strong> page.<\/li>\n<li>Your parent\/guardian will follow the same steps as listed above to complete their account creation.<\/li>\n<li>Once completed, the parent\/guardian will be taken to their dashboard where they will need to enter the student's date of birth and social security number to connect the two accounts.<\/li>\n<li>Finally, once the two accounts are linked the parent\/guardian will have the option of editing any parent\/guardian information previously entered by the student.\u00a0 The parent\/guardian will then electronically sign the application<\/li>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">If your parents are <i><strong><u>unable\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/i> to provide their information due to death, incarceration or other extenuating circumstance we will have a waiver you can complete. \u00a0If you feel you fall into this category please contact our office <a href=\"mailto:sfada@uchc.edu\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 Financial independence or residing apart from one's parents is not considered an extenuating circumstance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The application status will be <strong>Submitted<\/strong> on the parent\/guardian's dashboard once they click <strong>Complete<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-5\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"5\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Submitting Documentation<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>All students who wish to be considered for institutional aid must submit both their <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>AND<\/strong><\/span> their parent's wage and tax documentation.\u00a0 Students with legal dependents they support at least 50%, or students whose parents are unable to provide their documentation due to death\/incarceration\/etc are excluded from this requirement.\u00a0 Students who are independent on a\u00a0 federal tax return, do not receive financial support from a parent or have a parent that is unwilling to supply requested documentation are not sufficient reasons to circumvent this requirement.\u00a0 All documentation is submitted through a student's account with Inceptia.\u00a0 Please do not upload any wage or tax documentation to the financial aid office's website. Requested documentation includes but is not limited to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A student's signed 2025 federal tax return.\u00a0 The tax return needs to be signed by the filer either at the bottom of the second page of the return where signatures are indicated, or anywhere on the return.\u00a0 If a signed tax return is not available but was filed, a tax return transcript can be requested for free from the IRS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/individuals\/get-transcript\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 This service will provide you with a PDF that can be immediately uploaded and does not need to be signed.<\/li>\n<li>A student's 2025 W-2(s).\u00a0 These do not need to be signed.\u00a0 If a W-2 is missing or otherwise unavailable a free wage and income transcript is available for free from the IRS in the same manner as the tax return transcript.\u00a0 It can be requested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/individuals\/get-transcript\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If the student is married at the time of the submission of the application but was not in 2025 then the spouse is also required to submit both a signed tax return\/transcript and W-2(s)\/transcript.<\/li>\n<li>The student's parent(s) are also required to submit both a signed 2025 federal tax return\/tax return transcript and 2025 W-2's\/wage and income transcript.<\/li>\n<li>Additional documentation may be requested as the application is reviewed.\u00a0 Please check your e-mail for messages from Inceptia as well as your Inceptia dashboard.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em>Institutional aid is offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.\u00a0 The date a completed application is submitted, which includes all required wage and tax documents, a complete institutional aid application and a complete FAFSA will determine a student\u2019s place in line.\u00a0 Institutional aid is need based and is not guaranteed.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-3598-0-0-6\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-last-child\" data-index=\"6\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>Additional Requirements<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>After successfully accepting or declining aid, there are additional requirements a student needs to address.\u00a0 Some may prohibit aid from disbursing while others may affect a student's refund.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Students who have not previously received federal student aid, or who are new to UConn Health must complete two federal requirements before federal student aid can be disbursed; federal entrance counseling and a federal master promissory note or MPN.\u00a0 These are completed on-line <a href=\"http:\/\/studentaid.gov\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>All students who receive financial aid must complete the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement.\u00a0 This is found in the bursar's section of your student portal at <a href=\"http:\/\/studentadmin.uconn.edu\">studentadmin.uconn.edu<\/a><\/li>\n<li>If you\u00a0 chose to receive your health insurance through the university's Student Health Insurance Plan (or SHIP), please complete the Title IV Waiver.\u00a0 This allows the bursar's office to use your financial aid to pay for the plan.\u00a0 This waiver is found in the bursar's section of your student portal, <a href=\"http:\/\/studentadmin.uconn.edu\">studentadmin.uconn.edu<\/a><\/li>\n<li>It is mandatory for all UConn students to carry health insurance and the charge for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) will be added to your fee bill.
