- Reviews of four apps to relieve tension:
1. Belly Bio: An iPhone app that uses the device’s accelerometer to monitor proper diaphragmatic breathing.
2. Mindfield eSense Skin Response and Mindfield eSense Temperature, two unique apps that work with your iPhone or Android to provide skin conductance or temperature feedback with guided practice. To use the apps, the monitoring instrument, which connects to the phone must be purchased. The instruments are available on the Mindfield Biosystems website. A bit pricey, but much less expensive than many of its professional use counterparts.
3. My Calm Beat: App for the iPhone or Android that personalizes and monitors paced breathing practice.
4. Breath Pacer: A paced breathing app available for iPhone or Android devices.
- How to Do Progressive Muscle Relaxation. An article on how to relax your muscles.
- Who Moved my Cheese?, by Spencer Johnson (1998). This is a book about dealing with change.
- Wherever You Go There You Are, by Jon Kabat-Zinn (2005). This is a book about mindfulness meditation in everyday life.
- Don't Sweat the Small Stuff… And It's All Small Stuff, by Richard Carlson (2005). A book about how to keep from letting the little things in your life get to you.
- The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, by Martha Davis, Elizabeth Robbins Eshelman, and Matthew McKay (6th edition, 2008). Includes step-by-step techniques for coming the body and the mind.
- The Worry Workbook, by Les Carter and Frank Minirth (2000). Practical steps and interactive exercises.
