Hawley is the Associate Director of the Division of Research at Connecticut Children\u2019s and an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Medicine, and Immunology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She earned her PhD in Animal Biotechnologies and Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she developed a lasting interest in microbial pathogenesis and host\u2013pathogen interactions. Her research centers on the immunobiology and pathogenesis of\u00a0<\/span><em>Treponema pallidum<\/em><span>, the causative agent of syphilis. She is particularly focused on developing novel immunologic assays and animal models to dissect the bacterium\u2019s pathogenic features and identify correlates of protection that can inform syphilis vaccine development.
