Room Turnover Time and Discharge Cleaning

After a patient leaves a room, COVID 19 positive or COVID 19 unknown, a housekeeper can enter immediately to begin cleaning. The housekeeping staff MUST be wearing the appropriate PPE including:

  • Gown
  • Gloves
  • Procedure mask (mask with ear loops)

This process is the same for both rooms that are negative pressure as well as those that are not negative pressure. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is spread by droplet and especially transmissible via the patient coughing, sneezing, etc. If there is NO patient in the room this greatly reduces the risk to the housekeeper EXCEPT for surfaces, which is why the PPE listed above is required at all times during the cleaning process.
