UConn Health has begun the process of resuming routine appointments and elective procedures, and we are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our patients, employees, and visitors.

Location of Care and Management by Patient Type

Care location will depend on the need for critical care or other specialties such as Obstetrics.

  • Non-critically ill patient that does not need medical care requires a consult with the Department of Public Health (DPH) to determine if proper disposition is to include home quarantine.
  • Non-critically ill PUI who requires medical care will remain in a segregated/isolated room room in the Emergency Department (ED) until admitted to the ICU, either on the Critical Care or Hospitalist service awaiting test results. If the patient is on a non-intensive care unit, the patient should remain on that unit until test results are available.
  • Critically-ill adult patients will be cared for in the ICU in a negative pressure room, if available.
