Mulvihill Medal for Academic and Research Excellence

University of Connecticut Program in Applied Public Health Sciences

The Mulvihill Medal is awarded to the year’s outstanding public health student based on GPA and the quality of the final capstone project or thesis. The Mulvihill Medal was established by Dr. James E. and Mary Jane Mulvihill. Dr. Mulvihill was vice president, provost, and executive director of the University of Connecticut Health Center from 1980 to 1992. His commitment to graduate public health education at the Health Center was instrumental in enabling the program to begin and thrive. During Dr. Mulvihill’s tenure, Mary Jane Mulvihill worked tirelessly on behalf of the Health Center. Subsequently, in 1998, she received her master of public health degree from UConn.
