{"id":7631,"date":"2023-09-08T16:00:40","date_gmt":"2023-09-08T20:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/aits\/repositories-2\/"},"modified":"2024-03-18T10:49:06","modified_gmt":"2024-03-18T14:49:06","slug":"dataacquistion","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/health.uconn.edu\/aits\/dataacquistion\/","title":{"rendered":"Data Acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"pl-7631\"  class=\"panel-layout\" ><div id=\"pg-7631-0\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-7631-0-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-7631-0-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child\" data-index=\"0\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-7631-0-0-0\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p>The NIH and other organizations make the results of supported research available to the public enabling data reuse, increasing transparency, and the facilitation of reproducibility of research results.<\/p>\n<p>IRB approval is required for some requests and while open-access data can be browsed online or downloaded without prior permission, controlled-access data can only be obtained after the requestor has been authorized.<\/p>\n<p>Specific information about the common sources can be found below.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-7631-0-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"1\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-7631-0-0-1\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>The database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP)<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sharing.nih.gov\/accessing-data\/accessing-genomic-data\/how-to-request-and-access-datasets-from-dbgap\"><strong>The database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was developed by NIH\u2019s National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) to archive and distribute the data results from studies that have investigated the interaction of genotype and phenotype in humans.\n\nThe high-level workflow is below:\n<ol>\n \t<li>The PI will:\n<ul>\n \t<li>submit an on-line request to <a href=\"https:\/\/dbgap.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/aa\/wga.cgi?page=login\">The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)<\/a>.<\/li>\n \t<li>email required documents to Sponsored Program Services (SPS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n \t<li>NCBI will notify the SPS Signing Official (SO) of the request.<\/li>\n \t<li>SPS will secure NCBI application and Data Use Certification Agreement (DUC) signature(s).<\/li>\n \t<li>The SO will approve the request in the NCBI system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\nUse of the data set is authorized for one year and must be renewed annually. Renewals also follow the above process.\n\nPlease contact Sponsored Program Services with any questions about this process.<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-7631-0-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"2\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-7631-0-0-2\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>NIDDK Specimen and Data Repository<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/repository.niddk.nih.gov\/home\/\">National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Central Repository<\/a><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 98.811%; height: 113px;\" height=\"264\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"height: 113px;\">\n<td width=\"438\" style=\"width: 67.931%; vertical-align: top; height: 113px;\">The NIDDK Central Repository enables scientists to test new hypotheses without the need to collect any new data or biospecimens and provides the opportunity to pool data across several studies to increase the power of statistical analyses. NDA provides infrastructure for sharing research data, tools, methods, and analyses enabling collaborative science and discovery. De-identified human subjects\u2019 data, harmonized to a common standard, are available to qualified researchers. Summary data are available to all.<\/td>\n<td width=\"186\" style=\"width: 92.5347%; height: 32px;\">Data Access is Mixed.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 10px;\">\n<td width=\"186\" style=\"width: 92.5347%; height: 10px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nda.nih.gov\/get\/access-data.html\">NDA access portal<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-7631-0-0-4\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"4\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-7631-0-0-4\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>International Bio-repositories (UK BioBank)<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>International Bio-repositories (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukbiobank.ac.uk\/\">UK BioBank<\/a>)<\/strong> is a uniquely powerful biomedical database that can be accessed globally by approved researchers to explore de-identified data from half a million UK Biobank participants to enable new discoveries to improve public health.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biobank.ndph.ox.ac.uk\/showcase\/\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The UK Biobank Data Showcase<\/a><\/span> <\/strong>provides a summary of all the information gathered by UK Biobank on our 500,000 participants and is available to explore. The showcase contains background information on how these data were collected and notes about future collections.<\/p>\n<p>Before applying to access UK Biobank data, or if you are already accessing data, please keep up to date by checking the notes and additional resources provided with categories and data-fields for useful information. The user guide can be <strong>found<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/biobank.ndph.ox.ac.uk\/showcase\/ukb\/exinfo\/ShowcaseUserGuide.pdf\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">here:<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-7631-0-0-5\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce\" data-index=\"5\" ><div class=\"panel-widget-style panel-widget-style-for-7631-0-0-5\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\"><div class='uc-accordion'>National Institutes of Mental Health NRGR (NIMH Repository and Genomics Resource)<\/div><\/h3><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimhgenetics.org\/\" rel=\"\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The National Institute of Mental Health Repository and Genomics Resource<\/span><\/a><\/strong> allows users to search phenotypic &amp; genetic data collections by disorder or study, including stem-cell data.<\/p>\n<p>Principal Investigators (PIs) can <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nimhgenetics.org\/request-access\/how-to-request-access\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\" class=\"broken_link\">request access<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>for 3 years, however, once the access request expires, the Principal Investigator (PI) may not maintain any raw data files. \u00a0To maintain access to distributions, the PI must submit a renewal request to renew their access.<\/p>\n<p>It can take at least four weeks for NIMH to review your application.
